Today sucked. I was at my parents' house reading the newspaper and Alexander was playing outside with his cousin Diego and my mom. My mom ran inside all of a sudden and screamed, "Can you come out here quick please!" Me and my dad ran outside and my mom said that Alexander bumped his head on the doghouse and it was bleeding really bad. As soon as I saw all the blood in my baby's blonde hair I panicked and said, "Oh my God, Oh my God!" Then it hit me to calm down because if he saw me panic he'd get scared. I ran inside to get a washrag and my dad carried him into the bathroom. We sopped up some of the blood and tried to put pressure on it to stop the bleeding. But Alex said that it hurt him to push on it and I thought I felt a dent in his head so we decided to take him to the ER. I kept him awake in the car in case he had a concussion, and we got to the ER and checked him in. I was still worried until he wanted to go play while I was doing the admissions paperwork. I figured that if he was playing, then the wound must have looked worse than it was.

The doctor said that the head is very vascular so head wounds bleed lots more and that it was only a small wound. Alexander was really good while the doctor was washing the wound and the blood out of his hair. He didn't cry until they put the "super glue" on it and I guess it stung or something so he cried.

But afterwards we took him to Josh's mom and she took him to see "Finding Nemo" and to McDonald's. He's fine but it was a very stressful thing for a mother to go through. I don't know what I'll do if he gets seriously hurt. I guess the best thing is always to try not to panic and remember First Aid class. I just keep wanting to hold him and let him know how much I love him. He's not traumatized at all by it. To him it was an adeventure. But being a mom it sucks. I knew while I was pregnant and saw someone else's baby fall and bump her head that I would not respond well to my own child's minor injuries, let alone the big ones. I guess I handled it pretty well though considering.
